SPECIAL PROJECTS

Duplicating Albums

When a father called us to come look at a “few” photo albums he wanted duplicated for his children, it turned out a few meant 89. It’s hard to describe any of our projects as “typical,” but this is not an everyday thing. To remove all the photos, scan them individually, return them to the original album and then create three duplicate albums involved lots of moving parts including tracking materials and praying they’d arrive during COVID and keeping the world’s largest spreadsheet to track milestones for Santa’s delivery. We finished the project in time for this very proud Papa to surprise the recipients with a gift they will never forget: Five body-sized tubs of chronological albums, wrapped in ribbon with a custom oversized tag and a flash drive of all the pictures.

Hurricane Harvey

Houston was the brunt of a Category 4 hurricane in 2017 that devastated many homes and families…as well as their keepsakes. We had the opportunity to help dry out a lot of photos and water-logged memorabilia. It was a slow and tedious process, but there’s nothing like helping people recover from Mother Nature with some of their priceless history. One grandmother lost everything including all of her handwritten family recipes (she thought) until we dried them out and recreated the moldy pages minus the mold and stains…preserving the family treasures as well as grandmother’s and great-grandmother’s handwritten comments.

A Family Legacy

Can you believe 40,000 photos fit in a mid-sized SUV? We learned that fact after organizing and digitizing seven SUVs filled with photos top to bottom, front to back. We returned 280,000 items in a 10-foot truck and now the family has beautifully preserved and easy to find prints in labeled boxes and digital versions in a cloud archive. Each file name includes initials of every person in the photo, so no one ever has to ask “Where’s Waldo?” in this family. Digital favorites were tagged, so when they need “the dog in the kiddy pool,” we can find it in minutes. This photo doesn’t show that the archival boxes are two layers deep and there are racks of albums behind this as well.

A Family Foundation

As a personal assistant was getting ready to retire after a few decades, she knew the foundation she worked for had an incomplete, scattered version of its historical documents, memorabilia and photos. Various staff through the years made attempts, but it was haphazard. She learned about our expertise and called us in as her “parting gift” to the foundation. What started as “can you sort this out?” became can you create photo books for the past through today and help us stay on track with the digital archives as well? We’ve been blessed to work one on one with philanthropists who generously give to others, but also treasure where their ancestors came from and all the amazing accomplishments that strong family ties create. They’ve described our work as thorough, thoughtful and detailed as well as how thankful they are for that parting gift…the gift that keeps on giving.
